TODDLER DAY

This program is designed for toddlers, ages 18 to 30 months and their parents /caregivers.

Toddlers will explore sensory and creative activities and play during the morning. This program supports parents, guiding them through this busy stage of their child’s life with lively discussions over snack. The children and parents join in a fun active circle interacting with their child. Snack is provided.

DROP IN AND PLAY

A program designed for children ages birth to 6 years old, parents and caregivers.

The program provides opportunities for a fun- filled morning of play, exploring art, songs, interactive circle time and outdoor play.  A warm and supportive environment is created for you and your child to explore. An informal discussion time during snack time is a time for parents to gain knowledge and ask questions in a supportive environment.

SENSORY EXPLOSION

A program designed for children aged 2.5 to 3 years old who enjoy active games and lots of “ooey-gooey” sensory exploration.  Our time is divided between energetic body movement and creative hands-on sensory activities in the playroom.

BABY DAY DROP IN

Baby day is a fun filled morning for parents and their baby’s birth to 18 months. Come on out and play, learn songs and rhymes, share a nutritious snack and meet new friends. Discussion around topics such as child health and development. This is a time to meet our staff and learn about how they can support you and your baby.

INFANT MASSAGE

Infant Massage connects you deeply with your baby. It helps you to understand your baby and respond with love and respectful listening. You and your child will love the special time together! This program is for baby’s birth to pre crawling.

PLAYGROUP

This program is designed for children ages 3 to 4 years old who will attend school the following September. The program will provide a safe place for children to explore, play, create, and build relationships with their peers and the staff. The fun group will introduce children to turn taking, routines and a time to explore and inquire in a play based environment.  During the year the parent will learn about Transition to School and how to support their child through this.

Snack is provided.

Registration is limited to 6 children per group.

WOMEN'S CIRCLE

Women’s Circle is a program that provides a mixture of structured and unstructured learning opportunities for mothers and caregivers. Children under the age of 1 year stay with their mum’s. Childminding is available.

ALPHABET SOUP

Alphabet Soup is a parent and preschooler literacy and nutrition program. The program includes rhymes, songs, finger plays, introduction of themes/stories, building activities/games for parents, and early nutrition. The program has an emphasis on the value of books and nurturing a strong respect and love of reading in both the child and parent.

GET SET LEARN

Get Set Learn is a family literacy program that focuses on parents and their Preschool children. The program will have a parent and child time where parents can play with their child in ways that are literacy and math rich. Then the parents will separate from their children to have an active learning session on how to have a literacy rich home, and the children will engage in play in a separate room.

SHELLDALE COMMUNITY PROGRAMS INFORMATION

WOMEN'S CIRCLE

Times: Wednesday's from 9:30am to 11:30am
Timeframe: September to June
Cost: Free

This is a Free drop in program for women seeking to build relationships, socialize, and discuss and learn about various health, wellness and parenting topics.  Weekly activities can vary and include physical activity, crafts, cooking, art and more.  Snack and childminding available during program.

COMMUNITY GARDEN

Timeframe: Available in May on a first come first serve basis
Cost: $10 Annually

Shelldale Family Gateway provides 46 plots of garden for members of the community to rent out each year for an annual fee of $10.  Soil is prepared each spring by SFG and members are responsible for planting, tending, harvesting, watering and weeding their own garden plots.  Plots are rented out in May on a first come, first served basis.  There is a locked shed adjacent to the garden for storage of tools and supplies.

BREAKFAST CLUB

Times: Monday to Friday from 7:50am to 8:30am
Timeframe: During the school year (September to June)
Cost: Free

This free program runs Monday-Friday during the school year from 7:50-8:30am.  It provides children and their families the ability to have a nutritious breakfast before school each morning.  A hot meal is provided each day along with fresh fruit, cereal and toast, bagels or English muffins.  This program is funded through the Children’s Foundation Food and Friends Program who are dedicated to bringing Healthy Food to Hungry Minds.

SHELLDALE PARTNER PROGRAMS INFORMATION

Collaboration with other organizations is essential for Shelldale Family Gateway in order to better serve our community.  Partnerships can include such things as providing space, resources, referrals, co-facilitating programs or providing childminding.  If you are a community agency or organization that is interested in partnering with Shelldale Family Gateway contact Michelle Henderson at mhenderson@shelldale.ca.

SKILLS UPGRADING PROGRAM

Time: Tuesday's from 9am to 3pm and Thursday's from 12:00pm to 6:00pm
Age Requirement: Must be 19 years of age
Cost: Free

In partnership with Upper Grand District School Board Continuing Education.  

The Skills Upgrading Program is designed to help you build your skills in reading, writing, to move on to: employment, high school credits, apprenticeship programs, or post-secondary education such as college programs. We also assist learners with independence goals of learning basic computers or furthering their essential skills for work.  Childminding is available, Call/Text: 519-400-6970

This Employment Ontario program is funded in part by the Government of Canada and the Government of Ontario and through the Canada-Ontario Job Fund Agreement. It is a FREE program for all learners.  Learners must be 19 years of age. If English is a second language, learners must have a Canadian Language Benchmark of 6 in speaking and listening to attend the program.  

PREGNANCY TO PARENTING

Time: Tuesday's from 10:30am to 1:00pm and 12:30pm to 2:00pm
Childcare Availability: Free childcare provided Tuesday afternoons only
Cost: Free

In partnership with Guelph-Wellington-Dufferin Public Health.  

This free daytime program in Guelph for pregnant women and teens who are facing challenging situations. Talk to a nurse and dietitian about: Pregnancy, birth and parenting; Healthy eating for two; Breastfeeding.  Get free snacks, bus tickets, prenatal vitamins, and gift certificates for food. GUELPH YOUNG PARENTING EDUCATION PROGRAM

Time: Monday to Friday from 12:00pm to 3:00pm
Location: Youth Room at Shelldale Family Gateway
Childcare Availability: Provided

The Guelph Young Parent Program is offered by College Heights Secondary School. Our program provides academic support for pregnant teens and teen parents. Students will not only earn credits towards their Ontario Secondary School Diploma, but also develop an understanding of a healthy family life, expand their parenting and life skills, strengthen their sense of self worth, and create a community of learning with other young moms.  This program is run out of the Youth Room at Shelldale Family Gateway and childminding is provided.  If you are a pregnant or parenting teen who is interested in completing your high school education through YPEP,  contact College Heights Secondary School at (821) 4510.

ACTION READ - NORTHSTAR DIGITAL LITERACY

Time: Wednesday's from 9:30am to 11:30am
Cost: Free

In partnership with Action Read Community Literacy Centre. 

It helps assess the basic skills needed for adults to perform tasks on computer and online.  This is a group based learning and assessment program that helps adults through online, self guided modules.  These include:   Basic Computer Use, Internet, Windows operating System, Mac OS, Email, Microsoft Word, Social Media, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, and Information Literacy. Northstar is an assessment, not a curriculum.  When individuals pass the assessments they can obtain the Northstar Digital Literacy Certificate. This provides a credential for employment.
