Many of our programs depend on the support of volunteers to be successful. In fact, over 250 volunteers help our amazing staff deliver our programs each year!

Volunteering is a great way to contribute to your community, meet people, and gain new skills and experiences.  We have a wide variety of opportunities throughout the week in all of our program areas.

If you are interested in volunteering in any of our programs please contact Amy Piccin at apiccin@shelldale.ca.

Community Youth Volunteer

Zack was happy to present Mariam Muqueem with Community Youth Volunteer of the Year! Mariam was in our programs as a young child and actively participated over the years. In grade 7 she came every day to volunteer in the Afterschool Programs and participate in the teen program. As Mariam moved on to high school she continued to volunteer and worked for us as a part-time staff under a 2nd Chance grant. This past summer she worked for us during COVID times and acted as one of our cleaners. She role modelled for other staff how to be diligent, respectful, and kind.

Charlie Whittaker Award for Lifetime Achievement

Dan Barendregt was the recipient of this very special award – Dan is 83 years old and has been volunteering with Breakfast Club for 5 years. He is dedicated to our program, gets along with everyone, is always cheerful and even does Margie’s shifts when she is away! The kids and families all know Dan, and he loves to sit and chat with them.

Community Volunteer of the Year

Lorie was proud to present Kendra Benninger with Community Volunteer of the Year Award. Kendra has been a very dedicated volunteer at Shelldale Family Gateway for a few years now. She always has a smile on her face and is very enthusiastic when it comes to volunteering in our programs. She is kind, caring and relates to the children and youth she volunteers with very well. We are very lucky to have her as part of our team.

Partner Volunteer of the Year

We are pleased to announce the Guelph Community Health Centre as our Partner Volunteer of the Year. Through close connections and communications between our staff, we were able to ensure our families got the direction they needed for medical care, as well as receiving many helpful supplies from the CHC. We are grateful for the ongoing connection and cooperation.

Wanda Bonita Lucier Award

Aml was honoured to present Joanne Ly with the Wanda Bonita Lucier Award. Joanne has been an excellent volunteer at the front desk. She is fast learner who rarely missed a shift. She has enthusiasm in learning new things and has been able to assist with many tasks. We would not be as successful without volunteers like Joanne.

Corporate Volunteer of the Year

Hammond Power Solutions was a TERRIFIC sponsor to Shelldale Family Gateway! They took over our Christmas wish list and ensured every single child on that list had a lovely Christmas surprise! Additionally, Hammond also contributed $1,000 to our Winter Warm-Up, helping us achieve our new record of close to $15,000. Thank you, Hammond Power Solutions. This is a community partner with a huge heart for the community of SFG and we are fortunate to have them on the team!
